Does this spark joy in my life?
There’s a lot of power in editing things out of your life. I like the Marie Kondo method of asking, for each item you own, does this spark joy in my life? If the answer is no, you thank the item for the utility it gave you and give it away. This last part is a bit fluffy, but I think it might actually help getting rid of items that have “sentimental value” even though they have long served their purpose.
I think these ideas apply to many other things we tend to accumulate: features in products, abstractions in code, concepts and details in a design. Getting rid of excess opens the door to truly appreciate the important elements that remain.
So remember to ask: does this spark joy in my life?
