Creativity is play
To be creative you need to get into the mindset of a child who is playing. You need some focus around the problem you’re trying to solve, but not too much. Set the frame, and let your mind wonder. Don’t edit your ideas. That should happen later on. While you’re in your creative flow, you should just try to come up with as many ideas as you can. No friction, no judging of quality. Also, don’t think much of the outcome, just explore which ideas get triggered and connected.
If you do this for long enough, you’ll get past the obvious ideas and get to the juicy, original ones.
